Biological Information

Background Information:

Cardiac Troponin I is a cardiac-specific inhibitory subunit of the troponin complex, a key regulatory protein in striated muscle contraction and relaxation. It is one of three subunits (alongside troponin T and troponin C) that make up the thin filament regulatory complex controlling calcium-dependent modulation of actomyosin ATPase activity in cardiac myocytes. Mutations in the TNNI3 gene have been associated with inherited cardiomyopathies such as familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy type 7 and familial restrictive cardiomyopathy, reflecting its essential role in maintaining normal sarcomeric structure and function.
